RNTCP was started in the state of Goa in the year 2004 in a phased manner. There are 6 TB Units.
TB is diagnosed by sputum smear microscopy by trained LTs and also by Chest X ray. The sputum of Patients having cough for 2 weeks or more , is examined directly at DMCs (Designated Microscopy Centres or the sputum samples are transported to the nearest DMC). Almost all the Dist. Hosps/PHCs/CHCs are DMCs.
The diagnosis of TB is free. After diagnosis patient is referred to DOT centre which is nearest to his home for taking Free TB treatment. DOT Centre is located in each and every subcentre of the state where DOT Providers are giving treatment to these TB patients. DOT Centre are also available in, GMC, ESI, MPT HOSPITAL and Private community volunteers. Daily ATT Fixed Drug Combination was rolled out in Oct 2017 ( 6 months treatment for Drug Sensitive TB)
Diagnosis and Treatment of TB and MDR TB is available free of cost.
Approximate 18000 Chest symptomatic have undergone sputum examination annually and around 1500-2000 patients are put on treatment. The success rate of new smear positives is 87%.
PMDT (Programmatic Management of Drug Resistant TB (PMDT) was rolled out in December, 2012 for treatment of drug resistant TB
All Oral Longer Regimen for Multi- Drug Resistant Tuberculosis has been introduced.
IRL (Intermediate Reference laboratory was established at Goa Medical College, Department of Microbiology., as part of PMDT.
Diagnosis of MDR TB is by CBNAAT, Liquid culture and Solid culture
The diagnosis and treatment of MDR TB is also free.
There are 2 CBNAAT machines for rapid diagnosis and treatment of TB, one placed at IRL, GMC and the other one at TBOPD , at Hospicio Margao
There is nodal DR TB Centre (NDR), and District DR TB Centre (DDR) at TB Hosps. South Goa for pretreatment evaluation (PTE) and for initiation of MDR treatment.
Every Year around 40-70 MDR TB patients are put on MDRTB treatment. MDR patient is either given conventional MDR drugs regimen for 24 months or on shorter regimen for 9-11 months. A new MDRTB regimen containing the latest TB drug Bedaquiline , for treating MDR/XDR TB has been rolled out from July 2018.
The Private Doctors notify TB patients to public Health Sector, as per the TB Notification Act.
Every years quotation are invited for the procurement of laboratory materials like sputum cups, bamboo sticks, falcon tubes & other chemicals used to prepare stains for sputum microscopy in Designated microscopy centre and Intermediate reference laboratory at microbiology department, GMC Bambolim.
Nikshay Poshan Yojana is rolled out in April 2018, wherein every TB patient on treatment is given Rs. 500/- per month and this is transferred to patients accounts by PFMS Direct Benefit transfer (DBT), This is paid during the entire course of his treatment .i.e Total Rs. 3000/- for drug sensitive TB , whereas it is Rs. 12000/- for MDRTB. Collection of bank account details of TB patients is undertaken by PHCs and RNTCP field staff.
The RNTCP Core Committee under the chairmanship of Dean, Goa Medical College monitors RNTCP programme on quarterly basis.
Whereas the DOTS Plus Committee under the chairmanship of Prof. & Head, Dept of Pulmonology monitors PMDT (Drug Resistant TB) on monthly basis.
The Central TB Division monitors RNTCP through bi-annual review meetings for Drug sensitive TB and also PMDT. Besides this the CTD, New Delhi directly monitors RNTCP through Nikshay online.
The Epi Centre quarterly Reporting software have been discontinued because the reporting of TB diagnosis and treatment is done online through Nikshay which is monitored by CTD Delhi.

Nikshay Aushadi is Web based Management information system, for online drugs and distribution.
It enables real time visibility into stock status at all PHC Levels. Nikshay and other related activities under RNTCP, the programme has successfully finalise the procurement of 30 Lenevo tablets. The tablet computers are distributed at State levels to State TB Officer, District TB Officer, State Pharmacists, STS etc. The programme has now implemented a logistic and supply chain management solution called Nikshay Aushadi to enable real time visibility into stock status at all levels. A synopsis of all related activities pertaining to drug management is now available to all stake holders in just a click. Nikshay Aushadi enables forecasting, quantification and thereby creating indent and drug distribution.

A State TB Elimination Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of Goa with Hon. Health Minister as its vice chairman, Secretary health as a member, the Director of Health services as Member Secretary besides other members.
