The Institute of Nursing Education runs nursing education programs. The curriculum followed at the Institute of Nursing Education is planned and organized by nurse educators, based on the guidelines given by the Indian Nursing Council. Besides nurse educators, the services of external lecturers from institutions in Goa are also utilized. For obtaining practical experience in the principles and practice of nursing, students visit Goa Medical College Hospitals, Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, other district Hospitals, Urban Health Centers and Primary Health Centers under the Directorate of Health Services.
The Institute of Nursing Education offers a B.Sc. Nursing Course of 4 years duration with an annual intake capacity of 25 students and a multi purpose health worker’s course with an annual intake capacity of 20 students.
The Institute also conducts continuing education programme for in service nursing staff.
The 4 –Year Basic BSc-N Course has been started from 2005 onwards the details of the courses currently run at the Institute of Nursing Education are given below. The BSc-Nursing Course seeks to train candidates to function at the hospital and in the community set up. The entry level job for a student who has successfully completed the BSc- N course is a staff nurse. Final examinations for this course are conducted by the Goa University and the degree is also conferred by Goa University.
The 1½ Years Auxiliary Nursing Midwife Course seeks to train candidates to function in the community set up. The entry level job for a candidate who has successfully completed the Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery Course is an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife. The final examination is conducted by the Maharashtra Nursing Council, Mumbai at its designated centers (usually outside the state of Goa)
